The covers and several pages from Wasteland #3 and #4, by Close, Ostrander, Freeman, Lloyd, Messner-Loebs, Simpson, Kindzierski, Muns, Craddock, and Gold.
I’ve said it before, but boy this is a dark series. Rather than the cute O.Henry endings of older anthology titles, Wasteland features characters and societies going screaming over the edge. #3 has a creepy Pekar parody, a cop’s personal apocalypse, and a look inside the mind of a killer. #4 has two more mental breakdowns and a great courtroom parody set in a sadly familiar reality where being a minor celebrity can get you out of anything. This last story was my fave from these two issues. Somehow the comedy element adds a dark edge that isn’t as sharp in the straight psychological horror tales.
